Prof. Chaowei Yang's personal statement
My research has been focused on different CI topics including distributed geospatial information processing, interoperability, geospatial high performance computing, spatial web portals, and applications of importance to societal benefit areas. I published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers focused on these research topics. My research is well funded, and I successfully established with my colleagues the joint Center for Intelligent Spatial Computing at George Mason University with support from NASA, NSF, FGDC, EPA, NPS, Intergraph, and Sun Microsystems. I managed to establish a testing Cyberinfrastructure platform from scratch to support our geoscience information research and development at GMU. The platform connects to SURAgrid and the LamdaRail with gbps network connection and tens of Teraflops computing power.
I served as different officers, such as CPGIS President in 2005, for a variety of national and international organizations. I am the co-founder of CISG and co-organizer of the AAG sessions on Distributed GIS, Internet GIS, DGIP, and cyberinfrastructure in the past four years respectively.
