The University of Kentucky, Department of Geography seeks a geographer with research and teaching expertise in areas of environmental geography which complement existing and emerging programmatic areas of emphasis, including: biogeography and landscape ecology; environmental management and policy; geomorphology; and political ecology. The successful candidate will integrate geographic information science into their research and teaching. Appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commencing August, 2009.
Evidence of excellence or of strong potential for excellence in research and teaching is required. PhD required at time of appointment. Geography position at East Carolina University
Professor, Chair in the Department of Geography
The Department of Geography at East Carolina University seeks to fill the position of Professor and Chair beginning on or before August 1,2009. The Department of Geography currently has 22 faculty members and offers BA, BS, and MA degrees in Geography, Applied Geography, and Urban and Regional Planning. We anticipate offering new degree programs in Applied Atmospheric Science and Geographic Information Science and Technology beginning Fall 2009. The department offers a collegial and supportive work environment for faculty with varied interests and research agendas. Members of the faculty have a wide range of specialties in geomorphology, atmospheric science, coastal geography, GIScience, cultural geography, rural development, urban, regional and environmental planning, and urban design. Faculty members are also affiliated with the Center for Geographic Information Science, Center for Natural Hazards Research, Institute for Coastal Science & Policy, Center for Sustainable Tourism, and interdisciplinary graduate programs in Coastal Resources Management, Security Studies and International Studies. Faculty are actively engaged in research as evidenced by numerous publications in well-respected geography, planning, and specialty journals and grants from private, state, and federal organizations.
ECU is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System and enrolls more than 27,000 students. The University is made up of seven colleges, including the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences and the Brody School of Medicine. GIScience research in the Department is coordinated through the

We seek an individual whose primary responsibility will be developing and administering programs in GISci education and research. The successful applicant will be knowledgeable of a wide suite of GISci technologies and applications (GIS, remote sensing, digital mapping, etc.) and related public policy issues; possess strong research and analytical skills, especially survey analysis/development and interview methods. IDAHO, MOSCOW
Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, GIscience, University of Idaho, to begin August 2008. Required qualifications include a PhD in Geography (or expected by June 15, 2008), expertise in GIscience and ability to teach GIS courses at all university levels and supervise graduate students, research experience using GIscience, submit evidence of research accomplishments and plan for research funding strategies. Desirable qualifications include teaching and research experience in a university setting, the ability to teach geovisualization and GIS programming, and the ability to complement one or more specialties in the department such as regional development, climate change, biogeography, and remote sensing. Our department offers B.S., M.S., and PhD degrees in Geography, and a GIS certificate. We are partners with the National GAP Analysis Project and several university-wide interdisciplinary programs in environmental science and water resources. MASSACHUSSETTS, CAMBRIDGE
Preceptor in Geospatial Analysis. Responsibilities: Design and teach introductory undergraduate and graduate courses in geospatial analysis, including geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS), remote sensing and related geospatial science and technology, primarily for students in the social sciences and environmental sciences. In addition, work in collaboration with faculty and the Center for Geographic Analysis to develop GIS tools and geographic data for various courses in the social sciences, environmental sciences, and humanities. Start date is September 1, 2008. The position is renewable on a yearly basis up to eight years, based on performance, enrollments, and curricular needs.
Qualifications: MA or Ph.D. in geography or other relevant fields. Knowledge of geospatial science and technology; familiarity with current major GIS, GPS and remote sensing software packages; proficient in at least one product suite in each category; experience in the customization and implementation of geospatial technology in at least one, preferably two or more disciplines; experience in course material development and classroom instruction; spatial modeling and spatial statistics expertise highly desirable.

Geography: Department of Geography, College of Liberal Arts in the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55455. The Department of Geography in the College of Liberal Arts, announces the availability of one 100%-time, nine-month, contract faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor for three years in Geographic Information Science at the Twin Cities campus beginning Fall Semester 2008. Appointment will be for three years, with possible renewal for up to two additional years. The position requires teaching four semester-length courses per academic year in some combination of geographic information science, cartography/visualization and spatial analysis at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate also will be expected to participate in student advising.
Preference is for a scholar with a broad background in GI Science and a strong record of research. The essential minimum qualification is ABD in geography or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Preferred qualification is a PhD in geography or a relevant field. Salary depends on qualifications and experience and will be consistent with existing collegiate and University policies. Contract faculty in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research, develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute service appropriate for the rank of appointment to the department, college, and profession.
